Ahmad Yani : a brief history
General Ahmad Yani. We might have heard his name before, yet maybe some of us aren't aware of his legacy.
He was born on 19 June 1922 and spent his childhood in Batavia City, now known as Jakarta.
The general was one of the state officials killed during a separatist movement that took place on September 1965.
Ahmad Yani was staying at his house when several men ambushed him. He was supposed to be kidnapped but then made one of his kidnappers angry by slapping them, on account of denying his request to change his clothes first.
One of the separatist's member began to open fire inside his house, killing the general in the process.
His body was taken to Lubang Buaya, where it was thrown into an unused well. It was on the 4th of October when the search team finally found his body. He then received a proper burial at Kalibata.
Ahmad Yani became one of Indonesia's national heroes, with an airport in Semarang named after him.
